49 // How To Regulate Your Nervous System

In this episode, we chat about what "regulation" means exactly when it comes to your nervous system, and how to have more of it in your body and emotional life. We also discuss trauma and polyvagal theory.

When we have more access to the rest and digest, or the ventral vagal part of the nervous system, we are able to regulate ourselves more frequently. So, regulating the nervous system is about working on our capacity with difficult feelings and experiences. And then knowing how to come back to feeling settled in rest and digest again.

Listen to this episode if you'd like to react less in your life, and get better at regulating your nervous system

The topics we discussed:

  • What happens in your nervous system when you are stressed

  • Growing our nervous system capacity

  • Choosing your regulating resources

  • Making your regulating resources list

  • What to do when you are dysregulated

  • The hijacked freeze or fight/flight response

  • Noticing your "glimmers"

  • Polyvagal Theory and Trauma
